Features of SkyRouter include SMS support, customizable email subject formatting, alert information, and alert previews. Event notifications can be sent via SMS from SkyRouter to any cellular phone on any network. The SkyRouter alerting system allows fleet managers to customize pertinent asset information directly to smart phones and tablets as necessary. Through SkyRouter, asset movement can be tracked on a global map made possible by communication of the transceiver hardware with the Iridium satellite network. The SkyRouter web portal allows its users to see the location of a particular asset, follow its progress and note important events, such as an emergency situation. When Polar First Helicopter attempted to circumnavigate the globe by way of the North and South poles in 2003, the expedition ended with their helicopter crashing into an ice sheet.
